How long will an MRE store for? MRE military entrees and side dishes will remain nutritionally good for approximately 4 to 5 years when stored at room temperature according to rigid military testing. We suggest storing them in a cool dry place, the same as with all food reserves to maximized their shelf-lives. Storage temperature DOES affect the shelf-life of MREs as well as ALL foods. Each meal comes packed in a rugged clear bag to protect each meal from the elements and provides convenient meal organization.
Entrees included in this unit are Chili with Bean, Mexican Chicken Stew, Beef Taco Filling, Chicken Burrito Bowl, Spaghetti and Grilled Jalapeno Pepper Jack Beef Patty 2.4 oz. Meals in this unit also include crackers, snack item (cookies etc), pound cake, beverage powder, condiments and an MRE heater.
Other components in each MRE meal will vary for shelf-life like crackers, candy and cookies. We have typically found these items still very good tasting after years of storage though sometimes harder or dryer but still very tasty to eat. Cracker spread will have a shorter shelf-life, around 2 years.

First Test--- Excellent
I am not so much a doomsday prepper as I am a person who wants to prepare for a catastrophe. I have purchased several MREs from Nitro-Pak and never tried them. Well, I did tonight and all I have to say is great things. I heated a little water and placed the packets in for five minutes. I emptied them onto a paper plate, and ate with plastic utensils. I must say the taste was excellent. I am very happy with the quality Nitro-Pak has provided me and my family. I will definitely order more.. as my simple means permit.

Top Qaulity
I am stocking up for some bad times. My girlfriend does not agree. I have purchased several MREs from Nitro, and have not tested them. Well, tonight I did. And I must say, they were excellent! I took a heater and boiled a little water to heat the self contained packets . I emptied the contents onto a paper plate... ate with plastic utensils. I have to say, very good quality. I prep for serious situations, and the MREs I have purchaesed, from Nitro-Pak, are of the best quality. They were very tasty and most of all, they contain the vitamins needed to sustain health. I am very pleased with my purchase.. and more so, trusting Nitro-Pak with my and my reluctant lady friend's nutritional needs in case of a bad situation.

Great product, Exceptional service!
I purchased a few cases for a rainy day, major storm, type scenario and was very impressed. They were packaged well and arrived fast and in great shape. The date codes were all current, within the last year, and the food is not bad at all. The few that I have tried tasted great and they will get the job done well. I could live on these if I had to, but I'm hoping that it never comes to that. Also, these are a great option to take along on a hunting or camping trip. It is November 2012 and with a five year+ shelf life they should be good until the next election in 2016, maybe a bit longer. Overall a good product and value. The customer service was as good as it gets!

I am a US Military Reservist and these MREs offered by Nitro-Pak ARE made by one of the companies that makes MREs for the US armed forces. These MREs are excellent quality and NOT some cheap knock-off.

Recommended ...just ordered more.
I just ate my first MRE and it was excellent. More than enough food to get me full. If you were hiking or camping and needed a full calorie load, it's all there in one pack. If you are in a power outage or other emergency situation where you are not burning a lot of calories, one meal has enough volume and calories that it could easily be split between two people.
